Cletus Cox, 93, of Kimberling City, formerly of Festus, died Jan. 23, 2017, at the Wedgewood Assisted Living Facility in Kimberling City. Mr. Cox grew up in Festus and returned to the area after combat duty in World War II, going to work at Pittsburgh Plate Glass until his retirement. He also owned several businesses in the area.
Born March 21, 1923, in Herculaneum, he was the son of the late Leslie and Emma Cox.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years: Arlene (Wagner) Cox.
He is survived by a son: Van C. (Mayola) Cox of Kimberling City; three grandsons: Carson (Norman) Baxter-Cox of St. Louis, Brian (Chrissy) Cox of Melbourne Beach, Fla., and Tracey Cox of St. Louis; two great-grandsons: Braden and Blake Cox of Festus; and one great-granddaughter: Chloe Cox of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; two sisters: Teresa (Dodie) Knobloch and Jean (Fred) Govero of Festus; as well as several nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by three sisters: Maylo Abernathy, Gertrude Clifton and Jewell Bittick; and a brother: George Cox.
Graveside services will be held in May at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City.
